Trafalgar Church offers a variety of programs to nurture the spiritual growth of our members and the greater community. A selection of these initiatives are listed here: Each year in March a number of congregation members participate in The Week of Guided Prayer. Often called "a retreat in the midst of everyday life", participants go about their normal weekly routine at home and work, but also devote 30 minutes each day for prayer with a specially trained partner. This week is always popular, and offers spiritual transformation for those who are thirsting for prayer and growth. Trafalgar believes in the power of prayer. The prayer chain receives requests from the congregation and the minister as concerns arise and shares these requests with a small group of volunteers by email. Together we pray in the midst of health crises, relationship struggles, stressful situations and together we give thanks that God hears us and responds to us in our need. Stephen Ministry: Christ Caring for People through People Once a month, women of all ages meet in a Book Club. Geared to accommodate busy women, one chapter a month is discussed amid laughter and conversation. The books are chosen because they are easy to read and they address the reality of work and family challenges. Previous books include "Sabbath: Finding Rest, Renewal, and Delight in our Busy Lives" by Wayne Muller. Women may attend one evening, or all of them. New participants are welcome at any time.
Several years ago, a Prayer Shawl Ministry began at Trafalgar. Many knitters from the congregation make shawls in a variety of patterns and colours, and these are offered to individuals when they are in hospital or facing a personal crisis. Each beautiful, hand-created shawl not only invites the recipient deeper into prayer, but also declares to those who are distressed that they are surrounded by a community of loving prayer. |
